Welcome to IMPACT Secondary Pupil Referral Unit. The PRU’s in Sefton have been set up to offer a full time education for pupils who, for a variety of reasons, have not flourished in mainstream schools. The young people may have a range of social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties that often impair their ability to take part in sustained and active learning. The PRU’s first priority, therefore, is to enable pupils to re-engage in the process of education and learning. This is what we are good at and we pride ourselves at IMPACT in developing personalised learning programmes to meet individual needs. We believe all pupils deserve a fresh start and therefore offer a range of GCSE’s and recognised level 1 & 2 qualifications which are delivered in small groups or 1-1 to try to break the cycle of poor attendance and attitudes to learning. As well as committed teachers who have many years of experience in working at the PRU we have a brilliant support network of mentors ,Teaching Assistants ,and HLTAs ( higher level teaching assistants )who all work together to ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential through promoting equality of opportunity to participate in all the different aspects of the personalised curriculum and demonstrating good pro social modelling in order to further develop social communication skills .
IMPACT has 2 distinct provisions which are approximately 6 miles apart but staff work between the centres.
The Oakfield Assessment and Re-integration Centre ( ARC) is based in Formby and is a short stay school for 11 – 14 year old students. Students have a period of assessment and intensive support to help them re-engage in learning and bridge any gaps in their subject knowledge to help them successfully reintegrate into a mainstream school or alternative provision. There is a Nurture base at the ARC , small classes and high levels of pupil support.
IMPACT KS4 is a full time provision which includes traditional GCSE’s alongside a Personal Development Programme and work based learning. Students at KS4 are prepared to enter post 16 eduction, training or employment and to become effective citizens and positive influences in their communities.
IMPACT has a very successful track record in supporting young people and accessing individual support for their needs. This has only been possible because of the excellent partnerships with colleges, employers, training providers, heath, the Local Authority and many Voluntary and Community agencies.
