We aim to ensure that every pupil leaves Impact with an English qualification.
Most pupils achieve a GCSE in English whilst others will gain the Entry Level Certificate.
All pupils take Functional English qualifications as these are valued greatly by further education colleges and employers.
Key Stage 4
For students moving onto Key Stage 4 at IMPACT, their learning prepares them for qualifications in AQA GCSE English Language and EdExcel Functional Skills.
Year 10 pupils follow a thematic approach to the curriculum, with specific Assessment Objectives targeted each half term for both reading and writing. Progression is monitored closely and targeted intervention is in place throughout the term. Students will also be entered for Functional Skills during the duration of the course.
Year 11 pupils follow the Core + programme that was designed and implemented via LA advisory staff. The programme ensures that any gaps in learning over the years are identified and addressed. Students develop skills specifically aimed at the exam, using a variety of carefully selected resources that provide clear examples of the skills being developed by the students.
In English, we make sure that you have the skills to communicate in the work place.
We also encourage you to read as it is a valuable life skill and the book is always better than the film!
The Entry Level Certificate consists of a controlled assessment and an exam. Both of these test your skills of reading, writing and speaking and listening.
The key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening are also tested in the AQA Unit Awards. These provide discreet units, certificated by AQA , which cover essential areas of English giving extra qualifications in the basic English skills.
